Ways to get faster on a bike!

There are multiple components to getting faster on a bike, but the two bigest impacts are had for getting fitter and improving your skills.

Getting fitter obviously allows you to ride harder for longer. Fitness is a very broad term and being fit for one thing does not make you fit for another, so training for fitness for the specifics of your event is important also. Same too, being fit for one disipline within cycling (eg cross country marathon racing, doesn't automatically mean you have optimal fitness for a shorter sprint event, like a gravity or cross country short course race format. Having said that many aspects do translate from one disipline to another. A good marathon racer has a big head start to become a fast short course racer than an unfit rider with no base fitness.

Keep in mind there are many more factors that weigh in on the outcome of one's ability to race outside of fitness, but another you can have a big influence on is you skills. Have you ever witnessed a super strong road racer have a crack at a mountain bike race and be no where near the pointy end of the field by the time the race finished? Similarly a super stong mountainbike rider have a crack at a road race but get dropped in the first 10 minutes? That is in majority, skills. And by skills, its more than how to pedal a bike (but that too changes in each disipline) but where to apply your weight, when to apply power and when to not, what to look for and how to read your surrounding enviroment and position yourself within it. All important in both disiplines but a totally different appliction in both also.

Both components of skill and fitness can be fast tracked by a good coach, so invest in yourself and jump in to a skills course and start your fast tracked journey to be a faster, safer and more confident rider today!

We have plenty of suitable options for riders on our Courses tab to put you on your way.
